Interactions between thorazine(chlorproMAZINE) and Droperidol (droperidol)

Major Drug-Drug Interaction chlorproMAZINE and droperidol (Major Drug-Drug)

MONITOR CLOSELY: Droperidol has been associated with QT prolongation, torsades de pointes and other serious arrhythmias, and deaths. The concurrent administration of drugs known to increase the QT interval (e.g., phenothiazines) may increase the risk of prolonged QT syndrome. In addition, two case reports have suggested that concomitant administration of chlorpromazine and droperidol may cause agranulocytosis; however, causality was not clearly determined.

MANAGEMENT: The manufacturer recommends extreme caution if droperidol must be given concomitantly with these agents. The dosage of droperidol should be individualized and titrated to the desired effect. Routine vital sign and ECG monitoring is recommended.
