Interactions between repaglinide and Agenerase (amprenavir)
repaglinide and amprenavir (Moderate Drug-Drug)
MONITOR: Coadministration with protease inhibitors (PIs) may alter the hypoglycemic effect of repaglinide. Pharmacodynamically, PIs may interfere with blood glucose control because they can cause hyperglycemia, glucose intolerance, new-onset diabetes mellitus, and/or exacerbation of preexisting diabetes. However, since they are inhibitors of CYP450 3A4, they may also increase the plasma concentrations and pharmacologic effects of repaglinide, which is metabolized by the isoenzyme. Clinical data are currently lacking.
MANAGEMENT: Close clinical monitoring of glycemic control is recommended if PIs are coadministered with repaglinide. Likewise, patients should be observed for hypoglycemia when PIs are withdrawn from their therapeutic regimen.
