Interactions between phenylpropanolamine and Parlodel (bromocriptine)

Major Drug-Drug Interaction bromocriptine and phenylpropanolamine (Major Drug-Drug)

GENERALLY AVOID: Several case reports suggest that some sympathomimetics, including phenylpropanolamine and isometheptene, may worsen the side effects of bromocriptine. The mechanism is unknown, but may be due to additive pharmacodynamic effects. Hypertension, ventricular tachycardia, headaches, and seizures have been reported when phenylpropanolamine or isometheptene has been used in combination with bromocriptine.

MANAGEMENT: Until more information is available, the concurrent use of these agents should be avoided.
