Interactions between periostat(doxycycline) and Amobarbital (amobarbital)

Moderate Drug-Drug Interaction doxycycline and amobarbital (Moderate Drug-Drug)

GENERALLY AVOID: Barbiturates may decrease serum concentrations and half-life of oral doxycycline to subtherapeutic levels. The mechanism may be induction of the hepatic metabolism of doxycycline.

MANAGEMENT: Other tetracyclines which are primarily renally excreted (e.g., tetracycline, demeclocycline, oxytetracycline) should be considered, as they are not expected to interact. If the patient must receive doxycycline, close monitoring for altered efficacy is recommended.
