Interactions between pentoxil(pentoxifylline) and Aminophylline (aminophylline)

Minor Drug-Drug Interaction pentoxifylline and aminophylline (Minor Drug-Drug)

One study demonstrated a 30% increase in mean theophylline trough concentrations when pentoxifylline and theophylline were used concurrently for a week. The mechanism is not known, but may involve competitive metabolism. Studies indicate no interaction between pentoxifylline and theophylline assays, except that unusually high pentoxifylline serum concentrations are present when an enzyme-multiplied immunoassay (EMIT) is used. Monitoring of theophylline serum concentrations is recommended during concomitant use with pentoxifylline.
