Interactions between mag-64(magnesium chloride) and Avelox (moxifloxacin)
magnesium chloride and moxifloxacin (Moderate Drug-Drug)
ADJUST DOSING INTERVAL: Oral preparations that contain magnesium, aluminum, or calcium may significantly decrease the absorption of orally administered fluoroquinolones. The interaction is more pronounced with magnesium and aluminum. Absorption may also be reduced by sucralfate (contains aluminum) and other divalent or trivalent cations such as iron and zinc. The mechanism is thought to be due to chelation of the quinolone by the cation.
MANAGEMENT: When coadministration cannot be avoided, dosing the fluoroquinolone antibiotic either 2 to 4 hours before or 4 to 6 hours after the cation may minimize the potential interaction.
