Interactions between your selected drugs
didanosine ↔ lopinavir
Applies to:Videx EC (didanosine) and Kaletra (lopinavir/ritonavir)
ADJUST DOSING INTERVAL: Since lopinavir-ritonavir oral solution must be taken with food, simultaneous administration with didanosine may interfere with the gastrointestinal absorption of didanosine, which should be taken on an empty stomach.
MANAGEMENT: When prescribed in combination with lopinavir-ritonavir oral solution, didanosine should be administered on an empty stomach one hour before or two hours after lopinavir-ritonavir oral solution, which is to be taken with food. Lopinavir-ritonavir tablets can be administered simultaneously with didanosine without food.
didanosine ↔ ritonavir
Applies to:Videx EC (didanosine) and Kaletra (lopinavir/ritonavir)
Coadministration of ritonavir (600 mg every 12 hours) and didanosine (200 mg every 12 hours) has produced a 13% decrease in the area under the plasma concentration-time curve of didanosine. The plasma level of ritonavir was not affected. This interaction is likely to be of minimal clinical significance and dosage adjustments for didanosine are probably not necessary.

Drug Interaction Classification
The classifications below are a guideline only. The relevance of a particular drug interaction to a specific patient is difficult to determine using this tool alone given the large number of variables that may apply.
| Major | Highly clinically significant. Avoid combinations; the risk of the interaction outweighs the benefit. |
| Moderate | Moderately clinically significant. Usually avoid combinations; use it only under special circumstances. |
| Minor | Minimally clinically significant. Minimize risk; assess risk and consider an alternative drug, take steps to circumvent the interaction risk and/or institute a monitoring plan. |
