Interactions between flagyl(metronidazole) and Carbamazepine (carbamazepine)

Moderate Drug-Drug Interaction carbamazepine and metronidazole (Moderate Drug-Drug)

MONITOR: Metronidazole may significantly increase serum carbamazepine concentrations. One case of carbamazepine toxicity has been reported. The mechanism is unknown and causality was not clearly determined.

MANAGEMENT: Until more information is available, serum carbamazepine concentrations and clinical effects should be closely monitored during coadministration of metronidazole and after discontinuation. Patients should be advised to report possible symptoms of carbamazepine toxicity (nausea, visual disturbances, dizziness, or ataxia).
