Applies to:Proloprim (trimethoprim) and digoxin
Trimethoprim may decrease the renal tubular secretion of digoxin. Serum digoxin levels may be increased. The patient should be monitored for digoxin toxicity, and digoxin dosage should be reduced as necessary. Serum digoxin levels usually do not need to be checked unless toxicity is suspected. Patients should be advised to notify their physician if they experience nausea, anorexia, visual changes, slow pulse, or irregular heartbeats.
