CONTRAINDICATED: In pediatric patients, use of live influenza virus vaccine during salicylate or salicylate-containing therapy may pose a theoretical risk of Reye's syndrome based on known association of the syndrome with aspirin and wild-type influenza infection.

MANAGEMENT: The use of live influenza virus vaccine is contraindicated in children and adolescents less than 18 years of age who are receiving salicylate or salicylate-containing therapy. These patients should be immunized with an inactivated influenza virus vaccine.
