Limited clinical evidence suggests that benzodiazepine effects may have a more rapid onset and be more prolonged when probenecid is used concurrently. The mechanism may be related to interference with hepatic benzodiazepine conjugation. The clinical significance is unknown. Patients should be monitored for prolonged or excessive CNS depression. Benzodiazepine dosage reductions may be necessary.
