5HT3 receptor antagonists
A drug may be classified by the chemical type of the active ingredient or by the way it is used to treat a particular condition. Each drug can be classified into one or more drug classes.
Serotonin (5-HT3) receptor antagonists block the vomiting reflex by inhibiting 5-HT3 receptors in the vomiting center, the chemoreceptor trigger zone and in the small intestine.
5-HT3 receptor antagonists are used to treat nausea and vomiting triggered by cytotoxic drugs.
