Definition:

  1. Prefix denoting that the compound to the name of which it is attached contains a sulfur atom. This 'f' spelling (rather than sulph-, sulpho-) is preferred by the American Chemical Society and has been adopted by the USP and NF, but not by the BP.
  2. Prefix form of sulfonic acid or sulfonate.
