subacute spongiform encephalopathy
Definition: a form of spongiform encephalopathy that is associated with a “slow virus,” which to date has not been adequately described, is transmissible, and has a rapidly progressive, fatal course; Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, kuru, Gerstmann-Sträussler syndrome, scrapie.
