Definition: The methylene ether of allyl pyrocatechol; contained in oil of sassafras, oil of camphor, and various other volatile oils; it is obtained chiefly from oil of camphor by fractional distillation; formerly used as a tonic and carminative; prolonged administration causes fatty degeneration.
