Definition: ligase catalyzing reaction of ATP, pyruvate, and HCO32−, to form ADP, orthophosphate, and oxaloacetate; biotin and acetyl-CoA are involved; an absence of this enzyme results in neuronal loss in the cerebral cortex, leading to mental retardation.
