Pronunciation: prō-vaht′sek
Definition: historical term for either of two types of inclusion bodies associated with certain diseases: 1) trachoma bodies; 2) tiny, ovoid, granular forms, frequently in pairs, observed in the cytoplasm and in Guarnieri bodies in the cutaneous squamous cells of humans and animals infected with variola (smallpox) or vaccinia virus; probably the same as Paschen bodies.
