Pronunciation: preg-nān-trī′ol
Definition: A urinary metabolite of 17-hydroxyprogesterone and a precursor in the biosynthesis of cortisol; its excretion is enhanced in certain diseases of the adrenal cortex and following administration of corticotropin.
Examples: glitazone, GI cocktail, etc.
