precarinal space
Definition: a potential space bounded by the ascending aorta anteriorly, the tracheal bifurcation posteriorly, the left pulmonary artery to the left, and the right pulmonary artery to the right. The normal contents of the space are mediastinal fat, fibrous connective tissue, bronchial arteries, and lymph nodes.
