Pronunciation: pil-ō-kar′pŭs
Definition: A genus of trees and shrubs found in Central and South America and in the West Indies. Constitutes the botanic source for pilocarpine (q.v.), an alkaloid that activates cholinergic muscarinic receptors. Sudorific; miotic.
