Pronunciation: ōr′thō-fos-fōr′ik as′id
Definition: Phosphoric acid, O=P(OH)3, distinguished by ortho- from metaphosphoric and pyrophosphoric acids, (HPO3)n and OP(OH2)OP(OH)2O, respectively, which are anhydrides of H3PO4; the ultimate anhydride is phosphorus pentoxide, P2O5.
