Definition: an enzyme catalyzing formation of l-citrulline and orthophosphate from l-ornithine and carbamoyl phosphate; a part of the urea cycle; a deficiency of this enzyme will result in ammonia intoxication and impaired urea formation.

Synonym(s): ornithine transcarbamoylase
