nonvenereal syphilis
Definition: syphilis caused by organisms closely related to Treponema pallidum; spread by personal, although not necessarily venereal, contact; usually acquired in childhood, most common in areas of poverty and overcrowding; rare in the U.S.; includes yaws, pinta, and bejel.
