lateral plate mesoderm
Definition: the peripheral portion of intraembryonic mesoderm that is continuous with the extraembryonic mesoderm beyond the margins of the embryonic disc; it forms the somatic and splanchnic mesoderm between which develops the intraembryonic celom.
