Definition: the portion of the opening anterior to the vocal processes of the arytenoid cartilages bounded by the vocal ligaments; this portion is closed by contraction of the lateral cricoarytenoid (muscle) only during whispering.
Synonym(s): pars intermembranacea rimae glottidisTA, glottis vocalis, intermembranous part of glottic opening
