intermediate hypothalamic area
Definition: the portion of the hypothalamus located generally internal to the region of the infundibulum; contains the following nuclei: dorsal nucleus [TA] (nucleus dorsalis hypothalami [TA]), parts of the dorsomedial nucleus [TA] (nucleus dorsomedialis [TA]), arcuate nucleus [TA] (nucleus arcuatus [TA]), posterior periventricular nucleus [TA] (nucleus periventricularis posterior [TA]), retrochiasmatic area [TA] (area retrochiasmatica [TA]), lateral tuberal nuclei [TA] (nuclei tuberales laterales [TA]), and ventromedial nucleus [TA] (nucleus ventromedialis hypothalami [TA]).
