Pronunciation: hī-dan′tō-in
Definition: derived from urea or from allantoin; the NH–CH2–CO group is prototypical of α-amino acids. Hydantoin derivatives are formed by the reaction of phenylisothiocyanate or phenylisocyanate and a polypeptide.
