Definition: an enzyme similar to acyl-CoA synthetase, but which converts ATP, GTP, or ITP to the responding nucleoside diphosphate and orthophosphate in acting on glutarate, thus forming glutaryl-Coa.
Examples: glitazone, GI cocktail, etc.
