glucuronic acid
Pronunciation: glū′kū-ron′ik as′idThe uronic acid of glucose in which C-6 is oxidized to a carboxyl group; the d-isomer detoxicates or inactivates various substances (benzoic acid, phenol, camphor, and the female sex hormones) undergoing conjugation with such substances in the liver, the glucuronides so formed being excreted in the urine.
