- A gradual tapering or spreading outward.
- A diffuse redness of the skin extending beyond the local reaction to the application of an irritant; it is due to dilation of the arterioles and capillaries; depends upon an axon reflex set up by the liberation of a histaminelike substance in skin when injured.
