Enterocytozoon bieneusi

 

Definition: agent of microsporidian infection, primarily infecting the small intestine, especially in immunocompromised patients. It is the microsporidian most frequently reported in AIDS patients, in whom it has been implicated in chronic diarrhea and weight loss; suggested treatment has been with octreotide with albendazole.
