Definition: formed by fusion of transfer vesicles from the transitional endoplasmic reticulum, this relay station between the granular endoplasmic reticulum and the Golgi apparatus, acts to return stowaway proteins to the granular endoplasmic reticulum and to forward nascent proteins to the cis-Golgi face of the Golgi apparatus.
