ductus arteriosus
Definition: a fetal vessel connecting the left pulmonary artery with the descending aorta; in the first 2 months after birth, it normally changes into a fibrous cord, the ligamentum arteriosum; persistent postnatal patentcy is a correctable cardiovascular handicap.
