Definition: a sensitive fluorescent probe for DNA used in fluorescence microscopy to detect DNA in yeast mitochondria, chloroplasts, viruses, mycoplasma, and chromosomes; DNA is visualized in vitally stained living cells and after cells are fixed in formaldehyde.
Examples: glitazone, GI cocktail, etc.
