cystic medial necrosis
Definition: loss of elastic and muscle fibers in the aortic media, with accumulation of mucopolysaccharide, sometimes in cystlike spaces between the fibers; a disease of unknown cause, which may be inherited and predisposes to dissecting aneurysms.
