corrected transposition of the great vessels

Definition: anatomically or physiologically corrected malposition of the great arteries. In anatomically corrected transposition, they arise from the correct ventricles but have an abnormal relation to each other (actually a malposition rather than a transposition.) In physiologically or functionally corrected transposition, the aorta arises from a systemic ventricle that has the morphologic characteristics of a right ventricle, and the pulmonary artery arises from a “venous” ventricle that has the morphologic characteristics of a left ventricle.
