Definition:
- cessation of the circulation of blood as a result of ventricular standstill or fibrillation.
- intentional cessation of circulation by temporarily stopping cardiopulmonary bypass flow during certain thoracic aortic operations; used with intentional profound total-body hypothermia to protect vital organs.
