Pronunciation: kī′mō-pap-ā′in
Definition: A cysteine proteinase similar to papain in specificity; on rare occasions, it is used to shrink herniated intervertebral discs as an alternative to surgery; used as a meat tenderizer. It is the major endopeptidase of papaya.
