Pronunciation: kī′tō-bī′ōs
Definition: The disaccharide repeating unit in chitin, differing from cellobiose only in the presence of an N-acetylamino group on carbon-2 in place of the hydroxyl group. However, the nonacetylated form is often also referred to as chitobiose.
