Definition: A class of broad-spectrum bactericidal β-lactam antibiotics (imipenem) that bind to penicillin-binding protein 2 and thereby interfere with cell wall structure; they are highly resistant to β-lactamases and easily penetrate bacterial walls.
Examples: glitazone, GI cocktail, etc.
