capsular contracture

 

Definition: a tightening of a normal membrane around a prosthetic implant, probably due to proliferation of myofibroblasts; results in deformation of the implant or its soft tissue covering, or both, and in variable symptoms. Noted with particular frequency in association with silicone breast implants.
