Pronunciation: bre-til′ē-ŭm
Definition: An antiarrhythmic used to treat life-threatening ventricular arrhythmias. Initially releases norepinephrine, then blocks its reuptake, thus depressing excitability of sympathetic nerve terminals.
Examples: glitazone, GI cocktail, etc.
