Birch-Hirschfeld stain
Pronunciation: bŭrch hĭrsh′feld
Definition: an obsolete stain for demonstrating amyloid, using Bismarck brown and crystal violet; amyloid is usually stained a bright ruby red, whereas the cytoplasm of cells is not stained and nuclei are brown.
