Pronunciation: bī′lin, -līn
Definition: The chain of four pyrrole residues resulting from the cleavage of one bond of one of the four methylidene residues of the porphin part of a porphyrin; specifically, the unsubstituted tetrapyrrole; bilirubin and biliverdin are bilins.
Examples: glitazone, GI cocktail, etc.
