Pronunciation: bā′tă-lāns
Definition: A group of plant pigments found almost exclusively in the family Centrospermae, betanin. There are two groups: betacyanines (in red-violet plants) and betaxanthins (in yellow plants).
Examples: glitazone, GI cocktail, etc.
