Definition: the anterior (ventral) division of the lateral walls of the neural tube in the embryo; it contains neuroblasts giving rise to somatic and visceral motor neurons.
Synonym(s): basal plate of neural tube, lamina basalis, lamina ventralis, ventral plate of neural tube
