Pronunciation: aw′rin
Definition: A triphenylmethane derivative used as an indicator (changes from yellow to red at pH 6.8–8.2) and as a dye intermediate; also used to help differentiate tubercle bacilli from other acid-fast microorganisms.
Synonym(s): corallin, p-rosolic acid
