Pronunciation: as′bes-tō′sis
Definition: Pneumoconiosis resulting from inhalation of asbestos fibers suspended in ambient air; sometimes complicated by pleural mesothelioma or bronchogenic carcinoma; ferruginous bodies are the histologic hallmark of exposure to asbestos.
