amylin
Pronunciation: am′i-lin
Definition: A 37-amino acid peptide that is cosecreted with insulin from the pancreatic β-cell. Many of its biologic activities mimic those of calcitonin gene-related peptide, which is not a β-cell peptide. In patients with Type 1 diabetes, amylin is essentially absent from the plasma.
