Definition: a 1% solution of amaranth (trisodium naphthol sulfonic acid), a synthetic vivid red dye, stable in acid and intensified in sodium hydroxide solution; used as a red or pink colorant in liquid pharmaceuticals.
Examples: glitazone, GI cocktail, etc.
